At the Center for Standardization and Metrology (CSM) under the Ministry of Economy of the KR, February 1, 2018, a meeting on the establishment of the Interdepartmental Commission of the Codex Alimentarius of the Kyrgyz Republic was held.
The scientific community of the country included the director of the Institute of Trade and Restaurant Business, the head of the department ” Commodity science, commodity examination and restaurant business”, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor KA Alymbekov.
The aim of this commission is to coordinate and regulate the issues related to the development, examination and approval of national food standards with the assistance of the WHO / FAO Codex Alimentarius Secretariat in Kyrgyzstan. At the meeting it was scheduled to compile a list of national standards for 10 types of food products, which should be developed in 2018.
During the discussion, professor Alymbekov K. A. spoke about the importance of attracting students studying in food production profiles, logistics and selling food products at trade and public catering enterprises in promoting the goals and objectives of the Codex Alimentarius in the country.
Since, the main issue was the standards for food products, prof. Alymbekov K.A. informed the participants about the project of the European Union implementing in KEU Erasmus + “Higher education for food production systems and standards in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan” – HECAFS, setting out its goals and objectives.
For reference: Codex Alimentarius (lat: alimentarius – food products) – a collection of standards, technical norms and rules, guidelines and other recommendations concerning food. The texts of the Code are regularly updated in order to maintain relevance and compliance with the current level of scientific knowledge. The Codex Alimentarius was established in 1963, under the auspices of WHO / FAO, the World Health Organization and the UN Food and Agricultural Organization.
